One of the most misunderstood areas pertaining to health is proper nutrition. Although there are many schools of thought, there is but one guideline we can use as an example.

Most people have their thoughts and ideas on what food is considered as proper nutrition and believe if they eat plenty of it at each specified meal time, they are doing what is right.

Let's say your stomach can be compared to a gas tank in a car, your hunger and fullness signals compared to a fuel gauge. Most people feel that when they are hungry and eat a good meal, they have done themselves a good deal. But, what they do not realize, is that if their dietary intake is not what it should be, their body will not function properly. It might go a length of time undetected, but then, disease-like symptoms appear.

Using an automobile as an example, let's say the fuel gauge is on empty. You go to the gas station and fuel up. The fuel gauge reads full and you go on your merry way. That's simple enough. But, if you were unsure of the proper fuel to put in your tank, and filled it with antifreeze or motor oil, what would happen. After all, the fuel gauge did read full, so you gave your car what it needed, didn't you. Not at all.

Our body only knows how to survive. We fill it with the wrong fuel, avoid proper sleep and exercise, and stress ourselves daily depleting it of whatever nutrients it has. Eventually our body breaks down creating an environment that gives way to disease-like symptoms. It's a way our body is telling us it needs our help.
